Acres of Life

Acres of Life are a young boy band that are a similer genre to that of bands like Twenty Twety, Panic at the disco and Metro Station. Reseaching these bands before metting Acres of Life helped us understand what sort of music they are into performing. We then could work on what we wanted to produce from our day of filming. Looking at Richard Dyers theroy on star image and what he would think of Acres of Life. I think that they use some common values of music stardom such as rebellion, youthfulness and maybe a bit of aggression or anger. As they are a young group and haven't been sighned yet they do have a lot more bounders as a group they can push without going to far and creating a bad image for themselves.

Final Version of the Prelim Task

On the day we only had 25 minutes to film our section of the song and then would have the rest of the morning to edit it and be ready by 1 o'clock so that it could be then edited together as one song. This kept us going as we didn't have time to stop and thinking about shots we had to be all planned and ready when it was finally our time to shoot. We felt the pressure but after panicking about editing we got it all done by 1 and it was then edited together with every ones  completed shots. This gave us a chance to get use to a deadline and to work at a pace we weren't use too. I did find it hard editing at a fast pace as we looked to much in detail at all the shots and realised that we didn't have time to edit in detail.

Cd cover

When designing a front cover for Acres of life on phototshop, I looked closely at what our part of the video reflected.I felt that if I showed the drum kit it would show what we tried to focus on during our time shooting the video and the rock style of the band, which you can mainly hear in our part of the song. The title of the song i decided had to be quite simple as I didn't want to take away form the bands logo in the centre.

The day of the Prelim Task

On the day of the prelim task we got prepped for what we were about to shoot by listing all the different shots in order of conveniences. We met the band, Akers of Life with their track we were filming 'I like it when the pretty girls smile'. We started with a wide shot to make sure we had a full shot of the band members so that we could edit in our more detailed shots and still have enough of the whole band to edit on. We then worked from there too our shot of a close up on the lead singer and then continued with different close ups on insturments like the basest, guitarist and drummer. We then decided on the day that it would be a good shot if we put the camera on the floor and focused on the feet as they jumped about dancing which would give our video something different to edit too, we were influenced by this shot from the band Green Day. This worked well when it came to editing as we tried to keep it short and sharp to fit with the beat of the music, this also worked well with all the head banging as it was much easier to edit from instruments to a medium shot of the singer and basest. All our shots I felt worked well with the pace of the music but there is still room for improvement when it comes to the real day.  We also felt that we could have spent a little longer on editing the pace and sharpness of each shot and think of a few more camera angles that would help make our video different and interesting.

Planning for Preliminary Task

When getting ready for are morning shoot, for our preliminary task we started by researching other bands that were similar to that of the band we would be filming on the day. We found that bands like:

We are scientists: they have a alternative look and style to there music and look at appeling to the teenages who like something different to main stream music.

Twenty Twenty: Are a young boy band who have just started out and bring in young teenage girls who enjoy there music.

My Chemical Romance: Have a emo look to them and have a rock sound to there music they also bring in a young teenage audience but have been popular with some a little older.

They were just a few bands that we found would help us with deciding on what shots we would use on the day. We looked at close ups, panning and wide shot that would capture the best out of our few minutes we have to film in. We then had to draw it up, we decided to do a lot of close ups on the drummer as we had an bit in the track that was instrumental so if we concentrated on close ups of the different instruments. We also decided to have a close up on the mouth of the lead singer so we could cut from different instruments to vocals.

Music videos that influenced our shots for the Prelim Task

The band Twenty Twenty helped us with deciding which shots we would use on the day of our shoot, they are similar to the band and track we got given too shoot on the day. So this helped us with making a good decision on a list of shots that would work well on capturing the band at a sharp and fast pace. We really liked that panning shot of the whole band that moves at a fast pace and then cuts to close ups of the singer or instruments being played.

Panic at the Disco helped us with deciding the right angles for our close up shots of the lead singer and how we would change from different angles and close ups from a wide shot. We decided it had to be quick cuts to get the feel for the quick beat in the track we had been given.

We are Scientists, looked at high angled shots looking over the top of the band or above the head of the lead singer. This made us think of how we could use a high angle shot. We decided that this would work well on trying to capture the drummer during the music break in our part of the track. This would make us see the band in a different perspective.
